Again this year, the Voltri-Prà terminal participated in “PSA Go Green”, the month-long event in which the offices of PSA carry out environmental sustainability projects. During this month, we will test ideas, practices and instruments that are good for the environment and for the community in which the terminal operates.
Our 2017 initiative is truly important because it introduces, for the first time at our Italian port terminal, a fully electric car. This is just the beginning of the green revolution that will substitute the consumption of fossil fuels with sustainable energy sources. The electric car, in fact, saves up to 1,200 Kg of carbon dioxide emissions per year. This significant result pushed the company to commit to a plan for the progressive substitution of gas cars with electric and hybrid vehicles.
The first vehicle has been available for a few days to the HSE department and its employees who have driven it have been enthusiatic about the change. Some of its advantages include its silent motor, the driving comfort, and, above all, a range of more than 200 km without recharging, which makes it suitable for use in a terminal the size of Prà. The car recharges within the confines of the terminal thanks to a charging station installed by ENEL.
Environmental impact is ever more at the center of the PSA group both at the global and local levels. In the coming years, we will continue to work on providing alternative energy sources that reduce this impact and better the life of our territory. This is only the first step.
