From the first of July 2016 Shippers are obliged to supply the Maritime Transport Companies with the relevant VGM (Verified Gross Mass) information that attests the weight of the individual containers destined for shipping.
This regulation is part of the SOLAS Convention (Safety of Life at Sea) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The aim of this new regulation is to provide certified weights that allow for the creation of functional loading plans, guaranteeing the safety of the ship, the onboard crew, the load and of the shipping itself.
We created an infographic to explain how the process works at our Terminal.
