There are new plans in store for the Terminal Railyard. The end of May will see the completion of a new railway “rerouting” which will take full advantage of its capacity. The aim is to further increase the current 20% of traffic that travels on the tracks to and from the terminal.
The operation will include the positioning of a switch at the centre of the Railyard, which will join all nine of the tracks. This will allow the terminal to have two 500-metre railyards, increasing the number of train couples that operate daily from the actual eleven to fifteen. The project will then continue with the installation of a new railroad crane, which will make a total of four machines available.
Thanks to its direct connection with the national rail network, VTE – PSA Voltri-Pra offers numerous connections to the industrial areas of the main Italian cities as well as Switzerland, Germany and Continental Europe, making the port a strategic hub to reach the markets of these countries as well.
