The new ZPMC cranes have just arrived, but the crane operators of PSA Voltri Prà have already started preparing in order to be ready for the moment when they start to use them.
In particular, a simulator was recently installed that recreates the work environment and functionality in an extremely accurate way. This a necessary step because the new ZPMC cranes represent a noticeable advancement, on both a technological and size level.
The complete training for the new cranes will be carried out in three phases. In the first phase, a team of instructors were guests at the BEST terminal of Barcelona in order to familiarise themselves with the gooseneck type cranes.
The second phase, which is currently underway, foresees training sessions on the simulator for a total of 1140 hours for all the 120 crane operators of the terminal. Finally, at the end of May, the final training phase will take place “on the job”, when the crane operators can finally test out the new machines before starting regular operations.
