The expansion project in our terminal is continuing at a constant pace. At this time workers are busy installing 100 new fenders, which will be added to the fifty fenders that are already in place.
The first fender was installed in the most westerly point of the terminal in the area that was previously occupied by the No.1 Crane. This crane is currently being disassembled to allow for the installation of the new cranes that are scheduled to arrive in the first week of March.
The new fenders are of the super cone variety. These are the highest possible standard today, capable of responding to the notable demands of the ships of fourteen thousand TEUs and upward. The fenders are five metres wide and two and a half metres high. The conic structure responds to the demands required and maintains a distance of at least one metre between the ship and the quay. This guarantees the maximum level of safety during the loading and unloading procedure.
The one hundred new fenders will be installed at a distance of fifteen metres from one to another, covering a distance of one and a half kilometres of the PSA Voltri-Prà quay. The work is due to be completed by July 2016. During this time the running of the terminal will continue at full steam.
