As we mentioned in a previous article, from the first of July the new regulations from the SOLAS convention have come into effect, obliging all the consigners to declare the VGM (Verified Gross Mass) of all containers bound for shipping.
In order to make the transition process to the new SOLAS regulations as smooth as possible for our partners, the PSA Voltri-Pra Terminal has updated its computers system well ahead of schedule and a verified VGM station has been installed in record time in the pre-gate area.
The weighing station is connected to both the TOS (Terminal Operating System) as well as the Port Community System. This allows the certification of the necessary VGM data for containers leaving our terminal who are without this essential information. According to the new SOLAS regulations it is no longer possible to accept a container without a VGM for shipping. We would however recommend that all our partners obtain the relevant VGM data before arriving at the VTE terminal in order to speed up the shipping process.
The new weighing station stands out among the Italian export support systems adopted by the Port of Genoa for its operational capacity and technological content. The total investment by the port for its installation amounts to €500,000.
The service, which is managed by Port Services Consortium, is available for booking by the containers scheduled to depart from the PSA Voltri-Pra Terminal.
