2016 was the year of big changes at VTE. In this article we have selected the ten most important events to remember the goals that we have reached together and to prepare ourselves for another extraordinary year ahead. Here is our top ten!
1. The arrival of the first four ZPMC cranes
On the 29th February the “Zhen Hua 24” arrived at our Terminal carrying onboard the first four new quay cranes. The revolution has begun. Read more.
2. The New Fenders
100 of the latest generation of fenders have been installed all along the west side of the quay. The new fenders are of the super cone variety. These are the highest possible standard available today, capable of responding to the notable demands of ships with a capacity of fourteen thousand TEUs and upward. Read more.
3. The New Bollards
The Terminal is being equipped with 50 new bollards to be added to the existing 50 already onsite. Once the construction is completed in 2017, the quay will be equipped with a bollard every thirteen metres, each one with a capacity of 150 tonnes. Read more.
4. The first 15K TEU arrives at the Port of Genoa
On February 28th the “Al Dhail” established the record for the largest container ship to have ever docked at the Port of Genoa. 15K TEU in total. Read more.
5. Mooring of a 15K TEUs in 30 Minutes
Here you have it: the perfect mooring of a 15K TEU ship lasting a total of just 30 from the time of its arrival in the port. Read more.
6. The Breakwater Lights Up for the ULCV
The illumination of the breakwater project has been completed. This will allow for nocturnal access to our terminal without restriction for the mega vessels. Read more.
7. The seabed returns to a depth of 15 metres
A dredging operation has returned the seabed of PSA Voltri-Pra to its original depth of 15 metres to quay level. This guarantees the necessary draft for the new generation of container ships. Read more.
8. New ways of accessing the international area of the Terminal
Starting from May, staff and visitors can only access the international area with a special keycard issued by VTE or the Port Authority. The new security access system represents a significant improvement in the security standards at the Terminal. Read more.
9. The Western Moorings Equipment is Complete
Midway through the month of September the western moorings of the Terminal quay were completely equipped. Read more.
10. The latest four cranes have arrived
On December 9th The “Zhen Hua 11” ship arrived at our terminal with the second batch of four ZPMC quay cranes onboard. This makes a total of eight of the latest generation of quay cranes that have arrived at VTE throughout the course of 2016. Read more.
